Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I look forward to returning as Principal after a long illness and I am fit and ready to serve you and your sons and daughters as we learn and grow as a community. The school year is off to a great start with your children learning every day from the best teachers in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and fun.

Our school provides a comprehensive instructional program that meets the academic needs of all students while nurturing the spirits of our children. Toro Canyon cares about both the instructional growth of our students as well as their social and emotional growth to become young adults ready for High School and College. Our three Guiding Principles of conduct are designed to move students from being children to becoming young adults: Keep Your Hands to Yourself—Words Hurt—and Do What the Adults Say. These are the models of conduct that are examples of adult behavior that we want our students to master. These expectations are in an atmosphere of love and Family. Your sons and daughters spend more time at school than they do at home. This makes Toro Canyon a home for our children, too, where all are brothers and sisters under the fatherly care of the Principal.

We truly believe all students can be successful, and this belief drives the work they do on a daily basis. Our instructional goals focus on Literacy—Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. Toro Canyon expects all students to master these academic skills as the gateway to all future learning. Parent involvement too is vital to your children’s success, and we ask that you continue to play an active role in their education. You are welcome at Toro Canyon anytime and we ask you to take advantage of our Parent Center located in the library where staff are there to serve your needs as parents.

I am so happy to be back at the best school with the best students and the best teachers. I look forward to working together making the 17/18 school year the best for our students.

Dr. Richard Martinez

Assistant Principal

Dear parents and students, welcome to a great upcoming school year for 2017 - 2018. I am Dr. Richard Martinez, the assistant principal at Toro Canyon Middle School. I am responsible for school safety as well as student discipline and attendance, facilities, etc. It is important for students to understand that we must have a safe and welcoming environment at Toro Canyon Middle School. Our (PBIS) Positive Behavior Interventions Strategies help support students cope with low - level infractions and gives them insight on how to deal with these issues. I welcome parent input, so we can make our school a safer and positive learning environment.
